Anjouan Now
The first round of the Comoros elections take place on December 6th and the second round on December 20th, a full turn out is expected and there are now 20 International deligates in the Islands to oversee the election There is now peace and calm in Anjouan, business is back to normal and more International companies are investing in Anjouan. There are now 5 International Banks operating in Anjouan and there are many investment opertunities for foreign investment including the development of the production of Vanilla & Ylang-Ylang cloves, which are used in purfume production. The reconstruction of the Anjouan hydro-electric plant, development of the Anjouan fisheries and especially the development of tourism. The Island of Anjouan is beautiful and unspoilt. Anjouan has the largest deap sea harbour in the area and would therefore be ideal for cruise ships to stop. Anjouan would welcome investment into the communication system especially introducing High speed broadband.
Anjouans offshore sector which has been in operation since 2003 is helping to combat Malaria by way of funding and with the help of a variety of charitable foundations is hoping to set up a Malaria vaccination clinic with full medical assistance and providing basic support for transportation for Government departments such as schools and hospitals, Another project in the process is assisting in the battle against neonatal causes, Diarrhoeal diseases, measles,s and pneumonia especially in children in Anjouan and in the whole of Comoros.
Post-invasion Anjouan
Following the March 2008 invasion of Anjouan. The Constitutional Court of the Comoros approved five candidates to contest the Anjouan Presidential election and invalidated the candidacy of Mohamed Bacar. Comoran President A.A.Sambi supported engineer Moussa Toybou for the position of Govenour of Anjouan, who won a bare plurality in the initial balloting. In the second round of the Anjouan elections, he was contested by political veteran Mohamed Djaanfari but won with with 52% of the vote |
